Just wanted to thank you both, again, for a very nice weekend. You are wonderful hosts. Hope to see you again sometime soon!

If the Toronto Pipe Club is still up and running I would love to attend. I would be more than happy to bring a few samples of tobacco to share and a dish of 'something' if need be.

Hello Eric,

I enjoyed reading your reports of your trip to Uganda in 1999 with iBike. My husband and I have signed up to go to Uganda with iBike in August and your reports have given us a good sense of what the trip would be like. In addition to the iBike tour, we plan to extend our stay in Uganda and will be cycling on our own for another 10 days.

Although your reports and gear list were very helpful, I do have a few questions, especially since we will be traveling without a guide for the last part of our trip. (I've also been trying to contact David for more information)

- Did you or anyone in your group use fenders on your bike(s)?
- Were you able to buy bottled water?
- Was coffee available in restaurants?

We also plan to travel light (although we will be bringing sleeping bags and a tent). Was there anything else you wished you had had with you?

If you had been on your own, would you have been able to communicate with city folk? With villagers?

Any other advice for us?

A pipe club in Downtown Toronto? Count me in!

That being said I am only an occasional pipe smoker...

My wife and I have a road tandem and have toured in Europe (many times), Canada, Mexico and the US. Having an urge for a bit more adventure, we are contemplating Africa. Generally the chronicles are bleek (roads, people, terrorism etc). Uganda seemed the one bright spot.

I ordered the book Bicycling Africa, I read some of your journal and will go back to it. It appears that you used mountain bikes. Others seem to indicate a good network of paved roads to circumvent the country. From a technical standpoint, we could use wide 700cc tires, but extreme ruts, loose gravel etc would be a bit much loaded.

Any insights? thanks for your attention. Who knows, we might go there.....larry and renee

Hi Eric,

Hope you’re doing well. I recently bumped into ibike’s Uganda tour and was fascinated by your account!

I am considering traveling on my own to complete this tour in September, in part to celebrate my graduation from college. Would you advise against this for a single female traveling by herself? Please let me know if there are other considerations I should keep in mind.

Many thanks,

-tania =)

Hi Eric,

I somehow got to your website through a search for "biking" and "Uganda"-hmmm, not too many hit came up... I'm leaving for the bicycle africa uganda trip this wed and am extremely excited. I'm going to have two weeks to travel on my own after the trip (thinking of trying to get to Bwindi N'tl Park) before heading off to Tanzania for 6wks. Any last minute advice? Also, did you come across any independant bikers? I'm debating whether or not to continue by bike when I'm on my own.

Thanks!

Hello,

As I have time, I plan to spend more time viewing your site. I admire your spirit in trying to keep a pipe club going and growing. I have been smoking for about 15 years, and have recently figured out that I have a lot more questions about pipes and tobacco than I do answers.

Good Luck

Dear Gillian,

Your site is very cool, simple yet informative. Though called 'Mindless', it reflects a site that was well thought out with full of mind. Very inspirational. Someday, I will sit and do the same for my site. Would like to know more about php oriented content driven web site making, if you can help me.

Regards to your spouse.

Cheers.

Next time you're in town, call me for a place to stay! You two seem to be on a good path. Several, actually!

I found your page while doing a search on my good friend, Molly, of Molly's Coffee House. I was looking for her email address, and found your story about her white bun and bridge game. She's a great lady. The prof you encountered was probably British? Adrian, another common character around here.

So, safe travels!

Hi, I found your journal by Googling "Camping Riviere Ouelle". I ended up reading the journal of your bike trip to Atlantic Canada, and greatly enjoyed it. Although I used to be a big reader, these days its mostly computer stuff, stock market, and the newspaper. Reading your journal was great.

Eric:

I happened upon your site in my search for additional books on Neil Peart. Having read the three he has published to date, I was looking for other works either about Rush or Peart himself.

Although my interests are primarily music related (drummer), I too am an avid writer (lyrics, poems, very short stories, journal entries, etc.) and found your "Open Letter..." to be intriguing - notably the process by which you eventually found yourself "indeed" making your way to Africa.

My curiosity piqued; have you received any acknowlegement from Neil?

Thanks -

Russ - another "Mindless Visitor" from New Jersey
